GIAS compliancy & IIA Quality Review

Does your Internal Audit Function (IAF) already comply with the IIA's GIAS?

On Jan. 9, 2024, the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) published the new Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS). These standards will be the new standard for internal auditors worldwide as of Jan. 9, 2025. The GIAS replace the IPPF and provide a modern, clear structure that internal auditors can use to future-proof their work.

In the context of complying with the GIAS, ARC People can help you in several ways.

Option 1: We help you become GIAS-compliant

To quickly and effectively support audit functions in GIAS compliance, we at ARC People have developed a specific GIAS compliance service. This focuses on fully recalibrating the IAF based on the new GIAS requirements and guidelines. Our approach is practical, proven and quick to implement.

  • Audit charter update = We review the existing audit charter and ensure it is fully aligned with GIAS requirements. Consider a clear definition of the mandate, positioning within the organization and responsibilities of the audit function.
  • Audit handbook update = The audit handbook will be rewritten based on best practices, supplemented with concrete examples from our own practice. This creates a document that not only describes the audit process, but actually supports its implementation.
  • Develop or modify templates = Existing audit templates are critically reviewed and updated or replaced as needed. These include the pre-audit form, planning documents (PVA), audit reports, and closure documents such as feedback rounds. Everything is aligned with the new GIAS structure and directly applicable in practice.
  • Explanation of changes = To create internal support and provide clarity towards, for example, the audit committee or the board, we prepare a concise explanation. This clarifies which changes have been made and why they were necessary.
  • Training or workshop for the audit team = We make sure that the changes are not only on paper, but actually understood and applied. We usually do this in the form of an interactive workshop, combining theory and practice.

Option 2: We test your IAF against the GIAS standards

ARC People is accredited by the IIA to conduct quality reviews of audit functions. A quality review by ARC People includes the following features:

  • We take a pragmatic approach to a GIAS review, taking into account the organization, culture, proportionality and "risk maturity" of your organization. We provide advice and solutions that work in practice, without unnecessary bureaucracy or theory. Working differently in less time and thus becoming more effective is a recognizable challenge for every IAF.
  • We have templates, examples and solutions available, ready to deploy toward GIAS certification. We can also draw on numerous real-world examples of audit functions for which we ourselves have responsibility because clients have outsourced them to us.
  • During a "GIAS audit," we actively seek innovations and opportunities to improve and accelerate our work and yours, without compromising on quality.

An audit department outsourced to ARC People passed the quality review with flying colors.

Naturally, in both types of services, our fixed values remain intact: you always work with experienced professionals and benefit from a high degree of seniority, at a fair rate.

Perhaps you would like to receive a book from us about the GIAS in advance, explaining all the standards? Please let us know via the contact form. We will gladly send it to you.
