Master class "Software licensing risks: do you have them under control?

January 28, 2022 | 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. | Online

Free master class for audit, risk and compliance professionals

Large software vendors such as Oracle, Microsoft and IBM, as well as smaller software vendors, are increasingly using aggressive auditing methods (as a revenue model) to investigate whether your company has purchased sufficient licenses. Practice shows that organizations are rarely compliant with the contracts. Towering claims are often the outcome of these Software Audits / License Reviews and it always costs a company a lot of time, manpower and money to successfully settle or reduce these claims. Not only large companies have to deal with this, but also SMEs. By understanding what the concrete risks are, you, as an audit, risk or compliance professional, can help your organization avoid a lot of damage.

What else you need to know

On Friday, January 28, we organize an online master class, where we introduce you to the working methods of these major software vendors, discuss a number of anonymized cases and inform you how to deal with them as an organization. Speakers are Gerben Vermeulen and Otto Woltmeijer, who have a lot of experience in handling software audits / License Reviews of e.g. Microsoft, IBM and Oracle.

Sustainability in perspective

Are you ready for the new EU regulations?

You know how the word "sustainability" evokes mixed feelings? Important, but so complex... At the same time, you want to know more about it, if only because new EU regulations on 'non-financial reporting' are coming up on January 1, 2023. To get you started, we organized a free Masterclass on this topic.

Contents of the master class

This master class was organized in collaboration with Miriam van Gool, who has been working on this theme for more than 25 years. Almost ten years for the World Wildlife Fund, three years for the IFC World Bank in Africa and more than ten years as a consultant. She puts 'sustainability' into perspective for us, outlining the developments in the last century and the risks, increasingly visible in the Global Risk Report of the World Economic Forum. Not an easy read, but it does provide clear guidance, for example on the new EU regulations. Pieces of the solution puzzle that we in audit, risk and compliance can start working with immediately.

Appreciative Auditing

Audit innovation: stories from practice

Anthoon Haagsma (Sr. Auditor at UWV) takes you through his inspiring story about appreciative auditing, also known as "appreciative auditing. When Anthoon wrote his thesis for the RO study on this subject in 2008, the term appreciative auditing did not yet give any hits. That has since changed considerably. In the years that followed, Anthoon gained many practical experiences with a methodology he developed. The appreciative auditing methodology led to much appreciation from auditees and greater effectiveness of the internal audit function. The appreciative basic attitude works! Marc Lammers also emphasized it, as a successful field hockey coach: "To my knowledge, no one has ever won a game on his or her weaknesses."

Master class: Soft controls in practice

Audit innovation: stories from practice

Ilja Jacobs (Audit Manager at Univé) tells you all about soft controls in practice. By now we all know that soft controls are important. Now that their importance is no longer up for debate, the challenge for many auditors is still: how do you really do something with them? "Auditing behavior: just do it," wasn't the title of an interview with Ilja Jacobs for nothing. At the internal audit function where Ilja works, no audit is performed anymore without including behavior and culture. Ilja enjoys sharing those experiences from her practice with others.
